Hundreds of teenage girls are having breast reduction operations on the NHS

100s of teenage women have experienced breast reduction procedures around the NHS, figures have revealed.

During the last six years, 647 women aged 15 to 18 have experienced the surgery completed around the NHS.

The all inclusive costs towards the citizen is about ?3.2million - with every operation costing ?5,000.

Official NHS guidance states the operation could be completed if women suffer mental distress, back pain, neck discomfort or poor posture.

Throughout the process surgeons remove, body fat, glandular tissue and skin before re-shaping the chest. The hard nips also need to be repositioned.

The operation can't be completed for purely cosmetic reasons under NHS rules.

Official figures says 359 women aged within their 70s also had the operation completed between 2006 and 2011, The Sun's Rays reported.

As a whole, 21,328 women had breast reduction surgery completed through the NHS within the period. More...

The figures incorporated 14 women aged 15 who'd breast cutbacks, 81 women aged 16, 206 aged 17 and 346 18-year-olds.

Shadow health minister Diane Abbott asked if the NHS ought to be funding the procedures.
